Beyond Flood Risk Management on the U.S. Mexico Border
Achieving Environmental Justice and Flood Resilience Through Transborder Green Infrastructure Planning
This talk explores the challenges and opportunities for integrating stormwater management and urban planning beyond traditional flooding control approaches along the United States-Mexico border. Green infrastructure can help to develop flooding resilience and environmental justice when reframed as a transformative planning and governance strategy supporting social equity and integrated socio-ecological landscapes across the border. The presentation focuses on the case of Ambos Nogales on the Arizona-Mexico border, but its concepts are relevant to other border cities confronting similar challenges.
